He's one of the most interesting people I've ever met. I too, however, am grateful for the hard work of Jess Nevins in extracting some of the more obscure references! Jess, a friend of mine put a joke in his last book, namely that "Freud's theories are untesticle". He receives a dozen emails a day pointing out the 'typo'. Explaining historical reference after historical reference gets pretty tedious after a while, and I figured that the Battle of Marathon was well-known enough that people wouldn't need me to explain, and so would find my joke amusing. I should have learned my lesson years back, when I deliberately confused Peter Tork and Peter Tosh and expected the reading audience to know that I was kidding. That joke failed, too.
