   Reply @ Low — sounds like someone's working up a gaming setting… Spiders do wear armour — generally light stuff, chitin and leather and silk, which they have in sufficient quantities that even their rank and file generally wears it (silk, as you probably know, is extremely good for stopping or slowing arrows, as the missiles spin in flight and so get tangled in the weave. Silk has even been found to protect from snapbow bolts to a small degree. Against a Wasp sting, however, it fries almost instantly.) Spider armies are anything but uniform, however, so heavier or stranger armour is known.

   spiders seemed the best place to ask this since the best description was about tynisa and the crossbow… but how far does inaptitude stretch? adrian states that she can't comprehend how pulling a trigger releases a bolt but a hinged door does make sense (as long as the handle doesn't have to be used). have spiders learned by rote that a door opens if you push it? or is that so basic that even the inapt can use it? since when you push a door due the the hinges the door doesn't move how you expect. just wondering where the apt/inapt boundary is in relation to every day appliances would be. thanks in advance for any light shed on the situation.
