The Ants go Marching
September is Ant month? Why? Why not! A new picture by David Mumford, and a new short story showcasing an old friend from Empire in Black and Gold. Enjoy.

That's kind of you to say so. I'm glad you've enjoyed the book, and especially the world. You're actually the first person to spot the book 3 cover out there, as I hadn't realised it had been released. Yes, that's the correct one (1). At the moment Tor have only contracted for the three, and are very sensibly waiting to see how they do. However, I'm certainly up for writing a longer series if they are for publishing it. At the moment Empire seems to be doing well enough that I hope this is a likelihood.
I'm happy you like the website as well. I'm certainly having fun writing it. I should note my thanks to Michael Bhaskar at Macmillan, also, who was the driving force behind putting it together.
(1) As of this moment. Anything could happen between now and publication.
First of all I would like to do what any stereotypical fan would do and say I really enjoyed your book. I find that Empire has not received as much attention as it deserves, despite the many good ratings and reviews it received. I really believe your work to be something special, in a market which has been so full of formulaic stories, characters and narratives. I found in Empire a complex world, in many aspects an accurate metaphor to our own. Also, after reading your debut I could not help but feel a greater attraction towards insects, creatures which I did not quite hate, but found somewhat repelling. You broke many cliches, and though I would not go as far as saying the book is perfect, for sometimes there is something missing, there was a rather considerable number of moments in which everything was present. Needless to say I am looking forward to the next installments in the Shadows of the Apt series, and also hoping there may be many more after Blood of the Mantis. By the way, I recently saw in amazon.co.uk the cover of the third book, and would like to now if that is going to be the definitive one. Another information I would like to have is, wheter or not you intend to write more books in the series, and how your publishers at Tor feel about that. I thank you beforehand for the attention given to my comment.
PS. I forgot to say I find your blog amazing, because of its bonus materials (short stories and drawings) and also your so-called rants, which I find are impregnated with a intelligent sense of humour.
